Programme against corruption: clean schools in West AfricaWhole nations are suffering from corruption, a phenomenon that penetrates like poison all social classes. By addressing the issue of corruption, Bread for all has taken a ‘hot potato’ into its own hands for many years. Corruption can be tackled by raising awareness, by codes of conducts and by increased transparency. The corruption programme started in 2002 with our campaign to ban corruption from schools in West Africa. This campaign increases the consciousness among students and also has an increasing impact on the general public. Furthermore, Bread for all supports the Swiss section of the globally operating Transparency International (TI). Together with TI Switzerland, Bread for all advises Swiss NGO’s acting in international development cooperation of problems and consequences with regard to corruption issues. Bread for all and TI published a Guide and a Checklist to help NGOs implement internal anti-corruption programmes.
